Odisha suffered their third defeat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy Cricket Tournament when they lost to Vidarbha by seven wickets in a Group-A match at Karnail Singh Stadium in New Delhi today. Left-arm spinner Akshay Karnewar and Jitesh Sharma played instrumental roles in the Vidarbha win, bagging four wickets and hitting a 71-ball 70.
Opting to bat after winning the toss, Odisha lost wickets in regular intervals and were bowled out for 162 in 45.3 overs. Captain Govind Poddar was top scorer with a 68-ball 59, which included eight boundaries. This was the sixth List-A half-century for Poddar, who also completed 1000 runs in this limited-over format of the game. Bisides Poddar, Biplab Samantaray chipped in with an useful 29.
In reply, Vidarbha overhauled the target in 40.1 overs, losing three wickets in the process. Leg-spinner Rajkishan Patel, who made his List-A debut in this match, turned out to be the pick of the Odisha bowlers, taking two wickets for 32 runs.
